The 2018 annual report from the Downtown Cleveland Alliance offered both a moment of celebration and a clear-eyed look at the road ahead. Marking the 10th anniversary of the Healthline — recognized as North America’s leading bus rapid transit model — the report highlighted how a decade of strategic investment in mobility, historic preservation, and business development had fundamentally transformed the urban core. More than $1.4 billion in historic tax credits had catalyzed 31 projects and added 4,000 housing units, with over 40% of downtown residents now living in historically preserved buildings. The business development picture was equally strong, with 13,365 jobs added since 2011 and more than 30 new shops and restaurants opening in 2018 alone. With a downtown trade area projected to reach 60,000 residents by 2020 and momentum building across every sector, the Alliance made clear that the next decade of growth would be just as consequential as the last.
